NeuroSigma licenses UCLA patents to form NSVascular

NeuroSigma (Los Angeles) reported the formation of a majority owned subsidiary, NSVascular, and the signing of an exclusive license with the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) covering its medical applications of Thin-Film Nitinol (TFN) technology. Nitinol is a superelastic nickel and titanium alloy with unique properties that allow deformation and subsequent full recovery of the original shape upon exposure to body heat. (Medical Device Daily)

Now that the first half of 2011 is already in our rearview mirror, Medical Device Daily has compiled a Top 10 list of the biggest deals so far this year. Admittedly, the list was inspired by the excitement of last week’s dealmaking activity – Medtronic to spend a total of $645 million to buy Salient Surgical Technologies and PEAK Surgical and TPG Capital buying Immucor for $1.97 billion. Immucor (Norcross, Georgia), a provider of automated instrument-reagent systems to the blood transfusion industry, said it has entered into a definitive agreement to be acquired by investment funds managed by TPG Capital (Fort Worth, Texas) in a transaction valued at about $1.97 billion.
