US Fed Circuit clarifies standing in the face of licensures

The short story of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit’s May 19 opinion in Recor Medical Inc. v. Medtronic Ireland is that the lower court got it wrong when it ruled Medtronic lacked the required standing to bring an infringement countersuit against Recor because it had granted an exclusive license for products covered by the two asserted patents. The case was reversed and remanded.

New hypertension option as Astrazeneca’s Baxfendy wins FDA nod

Patients on antihypertensive medications who still struggle with high blood pressure now have a new treatment option, following the U.S. FDA’s approval of Astrazeneca plc’s baxdrostat. Branded Baxfendy, the drug is a first-in-class aldosterone synthase inhibitor, though it could be joined soon by potential competitor Mineralys Therapeutics Inc., which has a December 2026 PDUFA date for its aldosterone synthase inhibitor, lorundrostat.

The U.S. FDA dashed hopes that Corcept Therapeutics Inc. might be able to launch its selective glucocorticoid receptor antagonist in two indications in 2026, issuing a complete response letter for relacorilant for use in patients with hypertension secondary to hypercortisolism, also known as Cushing syndrome. Focus is now on the July 2026 PDUFA date, as Corcept seeks approval for the same drug as a treatment for patients with platinum-resistant ovarian cancer.
