Beigene gains global rights to Ensem’s CDK2 inhibitor in $1.3B deal

Two-year-old Ensem Therapeutics Inc. landed a deal potentially worth $1.33 billion, if all milestones are met, with Beigene Ltd. to advance its lead IND-ready oral cyclin-dependent kinase 2 (CDK2) inhibitor. Beigene, which has a presence in Basel, Switzerland, Beijing, and Cambridge, Mass., plans to fold the inhibitor into its breast cancer efforts, which includes its internally discovered phase I CDK4 inhibitor. Merck & Co. Inc. continued to broaden its reach in neurodegenerative diseases by paying, through a subsidiary, as much as $610 million to take over preclinical-stage Caraway Therapeutics Inc. The deal involves an undisclosed up-front payment along with contingent milestone rewards. Read More

Mixed phase III data drops Morphosys stock

Morphosys AG’s rare blood cancer treatment hit its phase III primary endpoint but missed statistical significance on a secondary endpoint, sinking the stock for the day. Top-line data from the study treating JAK inhibitor-naïve patients who have the rare blood cancer myelofibrosis showed the combination of pelabresib, a BET inhibitor, and the JAK inhibitor ruxolitinib produced a statistically significant improvement in spleen volume reduction, which was the primary endpoint. Bioxodes banks €12M series A round for intracerebral hemorrhage treatment

Bioxodes SA has set the stage for the phase IIa study of its novel anticoagulant in the treatment of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), after raising a €12 million (US$13 million) series A. Days before announcing the closure of the round, the first patient in the proof-of-concept study was treated, on Nov. 17, and eight of 10 sites across Belgium are geared up to take part in the trial. The aim is to develop the product, Ir-CPI, as the first injectable antithrombotic that is suitable for use within the first 72 hours of an ICH. Read More
