Perot Systems (Plano, Texas) said that the Daughters of Charity Health System (DCHS) has awarded the company a contract extension for IT services. Perot will continue to provide full IT outsourcing services to include application implementation and support, desktop support, local and wide area network design and maintenance, data center management, server design and control, help desk and incident management.

"For the past seven years, Perot Systems has collaborated closely with DCHS to create enormous value. With this extension, we will be able to take advantage of Perot Systems' deep healthcare technology expertise, enabling us to focus on providing the world-class care our patients deserve," said Dick Hutsell, chief information officer for DCHS. DCHS includes six California hospitals: Seton Medical Center (Daly City); Seton Coastside (Moss Beach); O'Connor Hospital (San Jose); Saint Louise Regional Hospital (Gilroy); St. Francis Medical Center (Lynwood); and St. Vincent Medical Center (Los Angeles).

Perot and DCHS began their relationship seven years ago, and the extension will enable DCHS to continue to improve its IT capabilities, ultimately resulting in a fully automated electronic medical record as well as a computerized physician order entry capability, according to the company.

"We look forward to continuing our relationship with the Daughters of Charity Health System. Perot Systems healthcare technology experts remain committed to enabling them to provide excellent care for patients," said Chuck Lyles, president of Perot Systems healthcare group.

• Misonix (Farmingdale, New York), a developer of minimally invasive ultrasonic medical device technology, which in Europe is used for the ablation of tumors and worldwide for other acute health conditions, said it has extended its distribution agreement for the Lysonix 3000 Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction system with Mentor (Santa Barbara, California) for an additional year. Mentor retains exclusive distribution rights for Lysonix in the U.S. and gains non-exclusive rights for certain foreign markets. Minimum purchase requirements apply to both U.S. and world markets and represent significant growth over the previous year.

Mentor supplies medical products for the global aesthetic market.

According to the company, the Lysonix 3000 provides multiple benefits to both patient and physician versus other liposuction methods, including small incision sites, targeted fat removal, reduced bleeding, reduced bruising, and faster procedure time.

Misonix develops therapeutic ultrasonic medical devices and laboratory equipment. Its ultrasonic medical devices are used for wound debridement, cosmetic surgery, neurosurgery, laparoscopic surgery, and other surgical and medical applications.

• Olympus (Hamburg, Germany) said it has signed an exclusive and immediate deal to distribute the products of Irish company Advanced Surgical Concepts (ASC; Bray, Ireland) worldwide.

According to the company, ASC is the sole global provider of ports for state-of-the-art laparoscopic operative techniques via a single access point (the navel). Olympus is now the exclusive distributor for the full range of products involved.

Olympus said that Laparo Endoscopic Single-site surgery (LESS surgery) endoscopic surgery via the umbilicus ranks as "one of the most important recent innovations in medical technology." Using these ports, three or four instruments can be introduced into the patient's abdomen via the navel. Up to now, most minimally invasive operations required three or even four separate access points, the company noted.
