Medical Services International (New York) will make available, at no cost, every 3 months for the next two years its VScan rapid test kit for tuberculosis to all passengers and crew that can verify that they were on the Czech Airlines flight from Prague to Montreal that included Andrew Speaker, who carried a drug-resistant form of TB, on its manifest.
The VScan TB rapid test kit is a screening test that will tell the individual using it if they have gone from inactive to active TB status. The test kit only detects "live" TB and does not give false positives. As it will take a significant amount of time before the status of the individuals can be determined, the company said it expects that having the availability of its VScan TB test kit will reduce some of the anxiety associated with this situation.
