Daniel Cher, MD, has been named to the newly created post of medical director at Cardima (Fremont, California). He previously served as managing scientist at Exponent Failure Analysis. Cardima has developed the Revelation Tx, Revelation T-Flex and Revelation Helix linear ablation microcatheter systems for the minimally invasive treatment of atrial fibrillation.

Corautus Genetics (Atlanta, Georgia) made several management appointments that prepare the company for its Phase IIb trial to test the efficacy and safety of its VEGF-2 gene therapy in treating coronary artery disease. Nina Vincent Sewell, who formerly managed her own clinical regulatory firm, CardioConsult, and served as a consultant to Corautus, has joined the company as senior vice president-clinical regulatory. Dr. Yawen Chiang has been named senior vice president-chief scientific officer, adding quality control and quality assurance to her former responsibilities for manufacturing, research and development. Jack Callicutt was named vice president-finance and administration. Callicutt previously was with Deloitte & Touche. Robert Atwood, chief financial officer, has added the title of executive vice president.

Beverly Lorell, MD, has been named vice president, chief medical and technology officer of Guidant (Indianapolis, Indiana). Lorell previously was professor of medicine at Harvard University Medical School and director of the program in heart failure at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

John Park, MD, will join a Sutter Health (San Francisco, California) collaborative heart program between California Pacific Medical Center (also San Francisco) and Marin General Hospital (Marin County, California). He will be chair of the department of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery and director of cardiac transplantation at California Pacific Medical Center and director of the section of cardiovascular surgery at Marin General Hospital. He also will serve as consultant to the new cardiac program at St. Luke's Hospital (San Francisco), another Sutter Health affiliate. Park prevously was associate professor of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery at the University of Minnesota.

ThermoGenesis (Rancho Cordova, California) has named Rudy Hulyebroeck director of marketing. He previousoly was with Jomed, St. Jude Medical, Cordis and Baxter. Kim Ellner has joined ThermoGenesis as director of manufacturing operations after most recently working for Smith & Nephew Endoscopy.
