Hybridon Inc., of Cambridge, Mass., said it received U.S. Patent No. 6,143,881 titled "Hybrid Oligonucleotide Phosphorothioates and Pharmaceutical Composition Thereof." It broadly covers oligonucleotides with 2'-methoxy or 2'-methoxyethoxy modifications.

Incara Pharmaceuticals Corp., of Research Triangle Park, N.C., said it received U.S. Patent No. 6,146,889 titled "Proliferation of Hepatocyte Precursors." It covers an isolated hepatocyte precursor capable of differentiating into a hepatocyte.

Magainin Pharmaceuticals Inc., of Plymouth Meeting, Pa., said it received U.S. Patent No. 6,147,060. It covers use of sqaulamine in treatment of cancer.

MitoKor Inc., of San Diego, said it received U.S. Patent Nos. 6,140,067 and 6,146,831. The patents cover methods for analysis, diagnosis and treatment of Type II diabetes mellitus.

Molecumetics Ltd., of Seattle, said it received U.S. Patent Nos. 5,840,833, 5,929,237, 6,013,458, 5,840,833, 6,020,331 and 6,117,895. They cover both composition-of- matter and method-of-use claims for the small-molecule urazole and non-urazole beta-strands, reverse-turns and alpha-helix templates.

Myriad Genetics Inc., of Salt Lake City, said it received U.S. Patent Nos. 6,124,104 and 6,140,473. The patents cover antibodies to the BRCA2 breast cancer gene and the p15 tumor suppressor gene.

Nexell Therapeutics Inc., of Irvine, Calif., said it received U.S. Patent No. 6,146,623. It covers several methods for preparing and administering genetically altered neutrophil precursor cells.

Northwest Biotherapeutics Inc., of Bothell, Wash., said it received U.S. Patent No. 6,150,508 titled "Monoclonal Antibodies Specific for the Extracelluar Domain of Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen." It covers monoclonal antibodies that recognize either linear sequences and/or conformational epitopes of prostate-specific membrane antigen.

Rigel Pharmaceuticals Inc., of South San Francisco, said it received U.S. Patent No. 6,153,380 titled "Methods for Screening Transdominant Intracellular Effector Peptides and RNA Molecules." It covers methods of creating, delivering and screening for genomic probes capable of altering the disease behavior of any mammalian cell.

SemBioSys Genetics Inc., of Calgary, Alberta, said it received U.S. Patent No. 6,146,645. It covers the use of its plant oilbody technology in personal care and topical pharmaceutical products.

Stem Cell Sciences Ltd., of Melbourne, Australia, said its partner, the University of Edinburgh, received U.S. Patent No. 6,146,888. It covers a method of purifying any mammalian stem cell type.

Transkaryotic Therapies Inc., of Cambridge, Mass., said it received U.S. Patent No. 6,149,909 titled "Synthetic Alpha-L-Iduronidase and Genetic Sequences Encoding Same." It covers purified alpha-L-iduronidase made from cells transfected with DNA encoding the protein. TKT also said it received U.S. Patent No. 6,153,188 titled "Glycosylation Variants of Iduronate 2-Sulfatase." It covers claims related to glycosylation variants of purified iduronate 2-sulfatase made from cells transfected with DNA encoding the protein.

Vivus Inc., of Mountain View, Calif., said it received U.S. Patent No. 6,156,753 titled "Local Administration of Type III Phosphodiesterase Inhibitors for the Treatment of Erectile Dysfunction." It covers local delivery of PDE3 inhibitors.

Xanthon Inc., of Research Triangle Park, N.C., said it received U.S. Patent No. 6,127,127 titled "Monolayer and Electrode for Detecting a Label-Bearing Target and Method of Use Thereof." It covers a method by which one member of a binding pair is attached to an electrode.
