Subgroup analysis of the Champion-AF trial shows age not a factor

A subgroup analysis of data from Boston Scientific Corp.’s Champion-AF trial, which looked at the outcomes for patients with atrial fibrillation treated with a left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) device compared to direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs), found that the efficacy and safety of LAAC compared to DOAC are not affected by age. The data were presented at the EuroPCR conference in Paris.

Boston Sci boasts Champion-AF data but strokes signal a concern

Boston Scientific Corp. revealed much-anticipated data from the Champion-AF trial which showed that its Watchman FLX device provides superior protection from bleeding compared to non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants (NOACs) in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). The left atrial appendage closure device also proved noninferior to NOACs in reducing stroke, cardiovascular death, or systemic embolism.

Boston Sci reports good data for Farapulse, Watchman afib systems

Boston Scientific Corp. reported positive data for two key atrial fibrillation therapies at AF Symposium 2025 on January 17. In late-breaking data presentations, the ADVANTAGE AF trial for the Farapulse PFA system met its primary endpoints, showing a 2.3% safety event rate and 63.5% effectiveness rate in treating persistent atrial fibrillation (AF) patients, with an 85.3% symptomatic AF recurrence-free rate. Additionally, a sub-analysis of the OPTION trial demonstrated that the Watchman FLX device significantly reduced bleeding outcomes compared to oral anticoagulants.
