Edgewise stock edges higher with an underwritten offering

Edgewise Therapeutics Inc. priced an underwritten offering of 21.8 million shares at $11 each as it looks for about $240 million in gross proceeds to develop its Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophies treatment. The offering propelled the company’s stock (NASDAQ:EWTX) Jan. 19 to close 34.5% higher at $13.04 each, their highest valuation in the past 12 months.

Investigators from Biomarin Pharmaceutical Inc. have presented the first preclinical data for BMN-293, a novel adeno-associated virus (AAV) gene transfer vector carrying the MYBPC3 gene. MYBPC3 mutations can cause hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), a heart medical condition characterized by an abnormally thick myocardium, which makes it more difficult for the heart to pump blood.

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) might not be the talk of the town in the world of cardiology medical devices, but the condition has a devastating effect on a large number of lives, particularly in the case of early disease onset. San Francisco-based Viz.ai Inc. has won a de novo from the U.S. FDA for its algorithm for identification of patients at risk of HCM, the aptly named Viz HCM, a product the company believes will not only save lives but may save the U.S. health care system a large amount of money as well.
