GE Healthcare launches 3Dstent imaging tool

GE Healthcare Technologies Inc. launched a 3Dstent imaging tool at the EuroPCR conference in Paris which it said will allow a new perspective on stent visualization, helping doctors do a better job. The company warned however that it is still in the process of validating the technology, which complements existing technologies and provides intraprocedural 3D and multi-slice images of stent but has certain limitations.

Baxter sells Biopharma Solutions unit for $4.25B

Baxter International Inc. agreed to divest its Biopharma Solutions (BPS) business to private equity firms Advent International and Warburg Pincus for $4.25 billion. Baxter expects to net approximately $3.4 billion from the transaction, which it will use to pay down debt. The deal is anticipated to close in the second half of 2023.

The new bedside monitor Carescape Canvas will work in tandem with the Carescape One acquisition device also developed by GE Healthcare Technologies Inc. and cleared for sale in the U.S. in 2019. Together, they scale up or down monitoring capabilities based on the acuity of each individual patient and according to the company provide sufficient flexibility to monitor patients across different health care settings within a hospital.

The €15 million (US$16.45 million) loan Smart Reporting GmbH recently received from the European Investment Bank (EIB) will take the company a “long way” as it looks to expand the use of its artificial intelligence (AI)-based medical documentation technology which “helps clinicians improve their workflow and patients to get better care,” co-CEO Peter Vanovertveld, told BioWorld.

GE Healthcare recall for imaging systems addresses potentially fatal detector collapse

GE Healthcare Technologies Inc. reported a recall of several systems in its nuclear medicine line of high-end imaging systems for two potential issues that could lead to the collapse of a detector weighing more than half a ton onto the patient. According to the U.S. FDA listing for the recall, no injuries or fatalities have been reported in connection with these issues, but the announcement resurrects an episode from 2013 in which a patient in New York lost his life when a nuclear imaging camera collapsed during an imaging procedure.

Philips’ ‘very disappointing year’ leads to forfeited executive bonuses

Royal Philips NV released a grim annual report for 2022 that showed a little willingness to share the pain of an unabashedly awful year for the health tech company, which has been plagued by a recall fiasco that has bled into multiple years. Shareholders lost much of their investment with the company’s more than 60% drop in market value in 2022, 10,000 employees faced job loss and all current members of top management waived their annual incentive payouts. Notably, former CEO Frans van Houten, who was replaced in October and oversaw the ill-fated recall, did not waive his bonus of $208,370.

Newly spun out GE Healthcare Technologies Inc. presented preliminary results for the fourth quarter and full year 2022 at the 41st annual J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference on Tuesday. The update followed the announcement of plans to purchase Imactis SAS, which developed CT-Navigation, a stereotactic needle guidance system. Terms of the Imactis deal were not disclosed.
