Nevro takes a step closer to gaining FDA nod for HF10 therapy in PDN

Nevro Corp. has submitted a premarket approval supplement to the U.S. FDA seeking a green light for its Senza system to treat chronic pain associated with painful diabetic neuropathy (PDN). This submission is expected to allow the company to gain approval and kick off U.S. launch activities for this indication in the second half of next year. Nevro would be tapping into a big market, as diabetes affects roughly 1 in 10 adults in the U.S. and can damage peripheral nerves, resulting in severe pain and numbness in the extremities.

Medtronic unveils integrated smart insulin pen for diabetics requiring MDI

Medtronic plc has reported the launch of the Inpen integrated with real-time Guardian Connect continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) data. Inpen is the first U.S. FDA-cleared smart insulin pen on the market for people on multiple daily injections (MDI). With this integrated system, users will have real-time glucose readings alongside insulin dose information, giving them what they need to manage their diabetes in one view.

Fourth time a charm as FDA finalizes POC blood glucose meter guidance

The U.S. FDA’s effort to compile a guidance for prescription, point-of-care (POC) blood glucose meter (BGM) test systems seems to show that guidances can be as iterative as the devices they govern. The FDA announcement for the Sept. 28, 2020, final guidance said that the differences between the 2020 final and the 2018 draft include “a minor edit” regarding user accessibility and a technical correction for hemoglobin testing concentration, yielding a document that is finally ready for prime time after four tries over six years.

This time, the company revealed that it has scored the CE mark for its next-generation Freestyle Libre 3 system. Wells Fargo’s Larry Biegelsen noted that the arrival of the CE mark came slightly earlier than his group had expected.

Medtronic unveils better-than-expected results amid pandemic recovery

Medtronic plc reported first-quarter worldwide revenue of just over $6.5 billion, a decrease of 13% as reported. As Cowen’s Josh Jennings wrote, the company’s results were better than expected, with an organic revenue growth decline of 17% vs. the Street’s prediction of a 25% decrease.
