Exoskeleton company Wandercraft SAS has landed $45 million in a series C round led by U.S. fund Quadrant Management. The company’s first commercial exoskeleton, Atalante, received CE marking in 2019 and has sold for around $176,000 a piece to European rehabilitation hospitals offering gait re-learning treatment.

DNA Script SAS is closing a $200 million series C fundraising round, with new investors pumping in cash to push commercialization of its DNA printing platform Syntax. The company has raised a total of $315 million to date following the launch of the automated benchtop nucleic acid printer in June 2021. European venture firm Eurekare joined the second tranche alongside T. Rowe Price Associates and Baillie Gifford, Healthcor Management, Irving Investors and Sino Biopharmaceutical.

Vicentra BV has closed a $74 million series C financing round to accelerate the European rollout of its wearable insulin patch. The small, lightweight system Kaleido is the company’s flagship product and consists of two pumps controlled by a Bluetooth wireless connected handset. The small size rests on a pumping action that – unlike a conventional syringe mechanism – uses micro-pulse technology to deliver accurate and consistent doses of insulin.

V-Wave Ltd. said on Dec. 17 that it has closed all remaining tranches of a $98 million extended series C financing led by Deerfield Management. The funds will be used to complete a pivotal IDE  trial for its Ventura interatrial shunt system for the treatment of advanced heart failure (HF) and submit a PMA to the FDA for U.S. marketing approval.

LONDON – Metabolic diseases specialist Northsea Therapeutics BV closed a $80 million series C to fund phase II development in two further indications, as it awaits the final results from the phase IIb trial of its lead product, icosabutate, in the treatment of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), which are due at the start of 2023.

Abogen Biosciences Co. Ltd. has raised $300 million in a series C+ round to support the development of its mRNA products, specifically to support the development of its COVID-19 mRNA vaccine and expand to the global market.

Suki AI Inc. recorded $55 million in a series C fundraising round to support further development of its artificial intelligence (AI)-driven voice technology and digital clinical assistant for health care providers. The round was led by March Capital with participation by Philips Ventures. All previous investors in the company also returned, including Gaingels Group, Pankaj Patel (former chief development officer of Cisco), Andrew Deutsch (CEO of RIMA Radiology), and Russell Farscht (former managing director of The Carlyle Group).

Virtual Incision Corp. raised $46 million in a series C funding round to support commercialization of its miniaturized in vivo robotic assistant (MIRA) for laparoscopic surgery. The first member of the company’s family of mini-robots in development targets colon surgery. Others in the pipeline will address hernia repair, gallbladder removal, sleeve gastrectomy, hysterectomy and other surgeries with specialized ranges of motion and tools.

A successful fundraising round by a Chinese surgical robot developer last week underscored the potentially fast growth of a sector that remains underdeveloped in China. Chinese surgical robot company Edge Medical Robotics Co. Ltd. raised $200 million in a series C round, and plans to use the funds for the commercialization of its core products.
