PARIS – Royal Philips NV is working with the Spanish National Center for Cardiovascular Research (CNIC) on an ultrafast cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) protocol that could reduce scanning times to just a few minutes.

Cleerly Inc. snapped up $43 million in a series B fundraising round to develop artificial intelligence (AI)-enhanced imaging to better understand heart disease and more accurately project patient outcomes. Vensana Capital led the round with participation from the American College of Cardiology, Cigna Ventures, Dititx Partners, Lrvhealth (formerly Long River Ventures), New Leaf Venture Partners and returning investors.

Researchers from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) said they have used two-dimensional nanosheets (FePSe3) to develop a biomimetic nanosheet that can monitor tumor development, treat tumors and monitor the treatment progress in real-time. With positive results from mice, the team hopes to further test it on larger animals, then move on to clinical studies.

PARIS – Gleamer SAS said Radiology published compelling results from a study evaluating the performance of its artificial intelligence (AI) system Boneview, which helps radiologists and emergency doctors detect and localize fractures. This is the first study to evaluate the performance of AI-assisted health care professionals in locating bone fractures on all appendicular X-rays.

Medtrace Pharma A/S raised $30 million in a series B round to ramp its platform for production, infusion and analysis of ¹⁵O-water in medical imaging. Swiss-based Swisscanto Invest, along with fund managers ATP and Bankinvest group from Denmark, are the lead investors. “We can now ramp our European and U.S. expansions plans in myocardial perfusion imaging and in other indications in need of perfusion data,” Martin Stenfeldt, CEO and co-founder of Medtrace, told BioWorld.

PERTH, Australia – Emvision Medical Devices Ltd.’s stroke helmet could potentially transform care for stroke patients by treating them at the bedside or before they even get to the hospital. The company’s portable, non-ionizing brain scanner is capable of rapidly producing quality images to help paramedics determine if a stroke is ischemic or hemorrhagic.

TORONTO – Arthrolense Inc. has just seen its bank balance swell after Lynx Equity Ltd. invested $2 million to further develop the startup’s augmented, mixed reality surgical guidance systems for hip and knee replacement. According to orthopedic surgeon and company CEO David Backstein the Arthrolense system uses vastly improved hologram-based technologies to solve problems that persist in computer navigation and robotic systems.

Lantheus Holdings Inc. has snagged FDA approval for Pylarify (piflufolastat F 18), a PET imaging agent for the identification of suspected metastasis or recurrence of prostate cancer. The company said the product will be available immediately in the mid-Atlantic and southern regions, with availability across the U.S. by the end of 2021.

A check up by Khosla Ventures determined that Docbot Inc. was healthy enough for the prominent biotech investor to take the lead in a $4 million series A round. The new funds bring the artificial intelligence company to a total of $8.5 million in capital raised to date. Other participants included Bold Capital Partners, Collaborative Fund and Boutique Venture Partners.
