Shockwave Medical Inc. raised $45 million in a series C round to further develop its Lithoplasty balloon catheter platform. Sectoral Asset Management led the funding round, joined by new backer T. Becton Dickinson & Co. (BD) is developing a wearable insulin patch pump, which would help the Franklin Lakes, N.J.-based company expand its $1 billion diabetes care division. The device would take BD's current diabetes offerings beyond insulin syringes, pen needles and lancets. Last week, the company revealed the product during analyst day. Clarify Medical brings in $3.6M to develop mobile app, skin lesion treatment device

With a fresh $3.6 million private financing under its belt, Clarify Medical Inc. said it will now turn its attention toward securing FDA approval for its mobile skin lesion treatment device. The San Diego-based company said it plans to submit its system for FDA clearance early in 2017 and introduce its product and information support services later in the year. The Ultra Violet B (UVB) treatment system can be used to help treat psoriasis, eczema and vitiligo.
