Woven Orthopedic Technologies LLC secured a second U.S. FDA 510(k) clearance for the use of its Ogmend implant enhancement system in spine surgery. Zimvie Inc. will sell its spine business to private equity investor H.I.G. Capital for $375 million, a move that should clean up its balance sheet and allow it to focus on the more profitable dental business. Safe Orthopaedics SAS reported results from a biomechanical study comparing its new surgical technique Sycamore – a pedicle-anchored implant – with standalone balloon kyphoplasty. The results published in summer 2023 in the Journal of Experimental Orthopaedics showed a “significant increase” in compression strength with patients using Sycamore.
The researchers who enabled patients with spinal cord injuries to walk independently after implanting programmable electrodes below their lesions have now taken things one step further, restoring direct communication from the brain to the spinal cord, enabling the brain rather than an external computer to direct leg movements.
