Small-molecule TREM2 agonist advances to treat Alzheimer’s

Microglia play a central role in the neuroinflammation associated with Alzheimer’s disease (AD). These cells act as the brain’s immune system and respond to damage signals such as amyloid accumulation. When the process starts, the initial microglial response can be protective. However, in later stages, this response becomes dysfunctional and contributes to disease progression. At the 20th International Conference on Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Diseases (AD/PD), scientists focused on TREM2, a microglial receptor that regulates immune responses, exploring new ways to address neuroinflammation.

Study elucidates role of TREM2 in chronic migraine

Feb. 19, 2026
No Comments
Chronic migraine is a neurological disorder characterized by recurrent headache episodes. Recent findings have implicated microglia in the trigeminal nucleus caudalis in chronic migraine-related central sensitization. Activated microglial cells release inflammatory and neurotrophic factors that interact with the neurons involved in the process.

Muna’s MTX-46943 sheds light on Alzheimer's therapy

Aug. 18, 2025
No Comments
Microglia are the brain’s innate immune cells that maintain brain health and play a key role in Alzheimer's disease (AD). Triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 2 (TREM2) acts as a regulator of microglial cells and restores neuronal functioning.
