In a global deal worth up to $770.5 million in up-front and milestone payments, Stevenage, U.K.-based Autifony Therapeutics Ltd. signed with Dublin-based Jazz Pharmaceuticals plc for two ion channel-targeting programs aimed at finding and developing new drugs for neurological disorders. Autifony will take selected candidates through preclinical development, while Jazz will cover clinical development, manufacturing, regulatory activities and commercialization.

Avadel preps to launch newly approved, once-daily Lumryz

Now that Avadel Pharmaceuticals plc has final U.S. FDA approval for its narcolepsy drug Lumryz, the company has priced the sodium oxybate formulation to match the cost of competitor Xywav from Jazz Pharmaceuticals plc. Avadel said it plans to charge $64.67 per gram for Lumryz. The annual cost based a 9-gram dose would be about $212,441 per patient. Three daily dose levels, 6 grams, 7.5 grams and 9 grams, were evaluated during a phase III study the final approval was based on.

Strong clinical data bumps biopharma stocks to a high point

An uptick in positive clinical data reported in recent months has helped nudge the BioWorld Biopharmaceutical Index (BBI) to its highest point this year. BBI is up by 15.58%, significantly higher than the 1.36% increase recorded at the end of August, just as statistically significant clinical results began to roll in from a number of biopharma companies.
