Bioage Labs Inc.’s $170 million series D financing will pay for phase II trials with azelaprag, an apelin receptor agonist, to be tried in combination with Zepbound (tirzepatide), the glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide receptor and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist from Bioage partner Eli Lilly and Co.

Supported by $100 million in financing from Medicxi, Alys was formed through the aggregation of six asset-centric Medicxi companies: Aldena Therapeutics Inc., Graegis Pharmaceuticals Ltd., Granular Therapeutics Ltd., Klirna Biotech Sàrl, Nira Biosciences Inc. and Vimela Therapeutics Inc.
Gene editing firm Metagenomi Inc. priced an IPO raising $93.8 million, while Telomir Pharmaceuticals Inc., a company developing small-molecule therapies targeting inflammatory disease, priced a more modest $7 million IPO. While they mark the second and third biopharma IPOs to price this week, and the sixth and seventh for 2024, the two aptly named companies are the first preclinical-stage ventures to test the public markets this year.
Elemind Technologies Inc. may not (yet) be telepathic, but the new company certainly read the mood of investors well as it secured $12 million in seed funding before emerging from stealth this week. While the product has yet to be fully revealed, the company is developing a wearable neurotechnology platform that uses artificial intelligence to read and guide brainwaves using tailored sound stimulation.
The new year kicked off with med-tech deal value in January totaling $107.75 million. By the numbers, January’s 183 deals surpassed the 2023 monthly average of approximately 142 deals per month.
