During a busy day of dealmaking, Cour Pharmaceutical Development Co. Inc. entered a pact with Roche Holding AG’s Genentech unit to advance tolerogenic nanoparticle treatments for an autoimmune disease indication, garnering up to $940 million in up-front and milestone payments. Cour’s partnership with Genentech is its biggest to date, and the largest deal announced by a biopharma company on Dec. 3. A total of seven deals amounted to a combined single-day deal value of $3.67 billion.
PTC Therapeutics Inc. said a “highly competitive process with several parties involved” led to the deal centered on the firm’s Huntington’s disease program with Novartis AG, an arrangement that brings $1 billion up front along with as much as $1.9 billion in development, regulatory, and sales milestone rewards.
Poseida Therapeutics Inc. is being bought out for $1.5 billion by partner Roche Holdings Inc. to develop allogeneic CAR T therapies to treat hematologic malignancies. The two companies began their collaboration in August 2022, a deal that brought Poseida $110 million up front and another $110 million in near-term milestone payments. With the acquisition, Roche plans to develop CAR T programs for solid tumors and autoimmune diseases with Poseida's genetic engineering platform and preclinical programs.
In the largest collaboration of 2024, Sarepta Therapeutics Inc. and Arrowhead Pharmaceuticals Inc. entered a sprawling global licensing deal that includes a swath of clinical and preclinical candidates targeting rare genetic diseases. Under the terms, Sarepta gains access to existing and potential future compounds derived from the RNAi platform developed by Arrowhead, with the latter eligible for payments potentially exceeding $11 billion.
Zai Lab and Pfizer Inc. are teaming up in China to fight the deadly carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB) infection with novel antibacterial drug Xacduro (sulbactam-durlobactam). Through the collaboration, Zai Lab will leverage Pfizer’s commercial infrastructure in the anti-infective space to widen access to Xacduro in mainland China. Terms of the deal were not released.
