Abbott Laboratories and Tandem Diabetes Care Inc. have finalized an agreement related to integrated diabetes solutions. Specifically, the duo is planning to combine Abbott's Freestyle Libre continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) technology with San Diego-based Tandem's insulin delivery systems, with an eye toward providing more options for diabetes management.

Hong Kong – Vuno Inc. is looking to access more markets after inking a partnership with Japan’s M3 on June 19. The partnership with M3, a medical data platform which is 34% owned by conglomerate Sony Corp., allows Vuno to tap into the Japanese market. Invitae Corp. (NYSE:NVTA) saw its stock flying high June 22 on the news of its agreement to buy Archerdx Inc., with an eye toward enhancing cancer genetics and precision oncology. Investors appear to approve of the deal, with the company’s stock closing at $27.05, up $8.34 or 44.58%.

PARIS – Agfa-Gevaert Group NV, of Mortsel, Belgium, has sold parts of its health care information technology (IT) business to Italy’s Dedalus Holding SpA for $1.1 billion. The divested interests include health care information solutions activities and integrated care activities in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France and Brazil, as well as certain IT imaging activities in these territories. It represents about half of Agfa Healthcare’s business.

Royalty deals by an investor into a particular pharmaceutical company program are not unheard of. This structure allows the investor to secure a portion of that specific anticipated upside, while enabling the pharma to fully fund R&D for that program without having to sacrifice other priorities to do so.

Now that Roche Holding AG has digested its Foundation Medicine and Flatiron acquisitions from a few years ago, it has looked to add more digital capabilities in a couple of recent deals. The earlier big-ticket tie-ups by the Basel, Switzerland-based pharma added genomic and real-world data analytics to deepen the knowledge driving Roche’s R&D efforts, particularly in oncology.
