FDA investigating Takeda’s Adzynma after reports of death

The U.S. FDA said postmarketing reports of neutralizing antibodies to ADAMTS13, including one reported patient death, have prompted an investigation into Takeda Pharmaceutical Ltd.’s Adzynma (apadamtase alfa), a recombinant protein product approved in 2023 for use in adults and pediatric patients with congenital thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura.

Otsuka submits NDA for new non-stimulant ADHD therapy

Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd. filed an NDA with the U.S. FDA for centanafadine (formerly EB-1020), a new nonstimulant therapy for treating attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children, adolescents and adults. Centanafadine is a norepinephrine, dopamine and serotonin reuptake inhibito formulated as a once-daily extended-release capsule.

FDA clears Kura/Kyowa’s Komzifti in r/r NPM1 mutant AML

The U.S. FDA gave the thumbs up to Kura Oncology Inc./Kyowa Kirin Co. Ltd.’s selective oral menin inhibitor, ziftomenib, to treat relapsed, refractory (r/r) nucleophosmin1 (NMP1)-mutant acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The approval of the drug, branded Komzifti, came more than two weeks ahead of the Nov. 30 PDUFA date.

The threat of tariffs on imports of branded drugs is about to be realized after U.S. President Donald Trump announced a 100% import duty will apply beginning Oct. 1. However, the flurry of recent announcements by pharma companies of investments in U.S. manufacturing plants may have paid off, with the president saying in his announcement on Truth Social that the 100% rate will be enforced “unless a company is building their manufacturing plant in America.”
