Proteomic signature can identify long COVID

Jan. 19, 2024
By Anette Breindl
Researchers at ETH Zurich have identified a proteomic signature that could recognize long COVID six months after acute infection. Biologically, the signature indicated that the complement system remained active in patients with long COVID six months after infection. Translationally, it could lead to a diagnostic test for long COVID, and suggests that targeting the complement system could be a therapeutic approach to prevent or treat the disorder.

New dual inhibitors of host proteases TMPRSS2 and CTSL/CTSB as potential anti-SARS-CoV-2 agents

Dec. 1, 2023
Current antiviral agents for COVID-19 treatment target viral proteins, which are susceptible to mutation during SARS-CoV-2 evolution. A potential strategy to fight emerging drug resistances is the development of compounds targeting host proteins that are indispensable for the viral life cycle.
