Following epigenetic STING (stimulator of interferon genes) derepression, inhibition of the MPS1 kinase strongly reactivated cGAS-STING signaling in mutations in both the oncogene KRAS and the tumor suppressor kinase LKB/STK11. Exploiting these findings could lead to a new therapeutic strategy to target treatment-refractory tumors with mutations in KL tumors, which have mutations in both KRAS and LKB1/STK11.

Newly updated guidelines from the World Health Organization (WHO) caution against using the COVID-19 treatments sotrovimab, from GSK plc and Vir Biotechnology Inc., and Regen-Cov (casirivimab + imdevimab), from Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc. Omicron, the group said, has rendered the monoclonal antibodies ineffective.

Everest Medicines Ltd. has inked an agreement with Gilead Sciences Inc. to pass the latter’s subsidiary, Immunomedics Inc., exclusive rights to develop and commercialize Trodelvy (sacituzumab govitecan) in greater China, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia and Mongolia. Everest stands to receive up to $455 million in total consideration, including $280 million up front and up to $175 million in potential milestone payments.

Gilead Sciences Inc. has bought the privately owned U.K. biotech Mirobio Ltd., paying $405 million for the Oxford-based firm and its checkpoint agonists to treat autoimmune diseases. Foster City, Calif.-based Gilead will gain Mirobio’s discovery platform and entire portfolio of immune inhibitory receptor agonists.

Galapagos shifts gears with Cellpoint, Aboundbio acquisitions

Galapagos NV is making a decisive shift away from its small-molecule roots, sealing the simultaneous acquisition of CAR T-cell therapy specialist Cellpoint BV and fully-human antibody company Aboundbio Inc. The Cellpoint deal is by far the largest, with Galapagos paying €125 million (US$132 million) cash up front, with a further €100 million to come in milestones. The price for Aboundbio of Pittsburgh, is $14 million.
