Off-the-shelf cancer vaccine specialist Nouscom AG announced positive final results for its lead product, Nous-209, showing there was a “highly potent” and durable immune response in carriers of Lynch syndrome, a common hereditary condition that can increase the lifetime risk of cancer by as much as 80%. The data, presented at the annual American Association for Cancer Research meeting on April 29, indicate Nous-209 elicits a cancer-preventing effect.
Imcheck Therapeutics SAS’s gamma-delta T-cell activating antibody has become a poster child for the French government’s plan to reduce dependence on imports of biopharmaceuticals by directly supporting domestic development and manufacture of 20 novel products by 2030. The Marseille-based company has been awarded nondilutive public funding of €20.18 million (US$22.4 million) as part of the €54 billion France 2030 strategy, which aims to restore the country’s industrial competitiveness.
Andera Partners closed its Biodiscovery 6 fund at €456 million (US$442 million). The venture capital firm will maintain its custom of allocating about two-thirds of the fund to biotechnology and one-third to medical devices and medical technology. The fund just edges past its target of €450 million. It is considerably larger than its immediate predecessor, Biodiscovery 5, which raised €345 million.
Imcheck Therapeutics SAS raised €80 million (US $83.5 million) in a series C round to maintain the momentum of its lead development program, ICT-01, an immunostimulatory antibody that activates gamma-delta T cells.
LONDON – Adaptate Biotherapeutics Ltd. has raised $18 million in the second close of its series A, bringing the total for the round to $34 million and providing the means to accelerate development of a portfolio of antibodies targeting tissue-resident gamma delta T cells.
Wellington Life Sciences general partner Regina Hodits, during a talk with CBT Advisors CEO Steve Dickman at the recent Biopharm America meeting, said the disaster scenario feared for European investments when COVID-19 struck “turned out very different. We never have a lot of time off in summer, not as much as we would want to, but this year we certainly had no time off,” as portfolio firms found money and Wellington tapped new opportunities.
