Zhejiang Medicine’s anti-HER2 ADC positive in phase III; possible new drug submission up next

Zhejiang Medicine Co. Ltd.’s subsidiary, Novocodex Biopharmaceuticals Inc., reported positive phase III study results for its humanized anti-HER2 monoclonal antibody-drug conjugate, ARX-788, in the treatment of patients with HER2-positive locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer in China.

Redx halts biliary tract cancer treatment monotherapy program

Top-line results of a phase II study of RXC-004, a porcupine inhibitor for treating certain Wnt ligand-dependent cancers, are not good enough to continue development as a monotherapy for biliary tract cancer, according to Redx Pharma plc. Despite the monotherapy arm not hitting progression-free survival at six months, the Porcupine2 study continues with its other treatment arm, this one using Keytruda (pembrolizumab, Merck & Co. Inc.). Data from that arm are set to come in the second half of 2023.

ESMO TAT: Tumor therapies find new ways into the brain, by finesse or force

Whether as primary tumors or metastases, brain tumors remain stubbornly intractable to the progress that has occurred in many other tumor types. As Igor Vivanco, who is a senior lecturer in the Institute of Pharmaceutical Science at King’s College London, noted in his talk at the European Society for Medical Oncology Targeted Anticancer Therapies (ESMO TAT) meeting in Paris this week, the last win in glioblastoma was the addition of temozolomide to the radiotherapy standard of care in 2005. And temozolomide’s benefit is measured in months, not years.

With a $200 million oversubscribed and upsized series A round completed, Cargo Therapeutics Inc. will advance its autologous CD22 chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy, CRG-022, which has breakthrough therapy designation in the U.S. “The proceeds are critical for us,” said Gina Chapman, CEO of San Mateo, Calif.-based Cargo. “We will demonstrate manufacturability this year and kick off the pivotal phase II.”

Oricell nets $45M in series B round, eyes the global market

Oricell Therapeutics Co. Ltd. raised $45 million in a series B1 round to expand in the U.S. market. RTW Investments LP and the Qatar Investment Authority led the financing, which followed the completion of a $125 million series B round in July 2022. Shanghai-based Oricell plans to use the new funds to support the clinical development of its lead candidates, including Oricar-017, in the U.S.
